T1 Muay Thai Grading
Almost every club and organisation has its own grading syllabus and grading ladder.
This ladder is the same as a few other organisations however the syllabus is solely for T1 Muay Thai.
Grading examinations take place approximately every 16 weeks however the for the advanced levels students are expected to wait approximately 32 weeks before grading.
Before Taking the examination for instructor level the student must wait one year from his/her previous grading. This is because of the requirements for the Instructor Grade.
The T1 Muay Thai grading syllabus follows the following path:
Beginner Levels
At this level Students prepare basic striking and defence skills. Pad-work is not graded at this level. Controlled sparring is introduced as is self defence.
Level 1 Yellow (2nd Khan)
Level 2 Green (3rd Khan)
Level 3 Blue (4th Khan)
Intermediate Levels
At this level pad-work is graded and is expected to be of a good standard for safety. Self defence is expanded to include defence against strikes. Spectacular techniques are introduced to compliment the basic techniques. Pad-work is graded to include effectively working with a partner.
At level 5 all basic strikes are tested and will be tested on every subsequent grade. As the student progresses through the grading ladder the basic strikes are expected to improve Speed, Power, Accuracy, and Timing
Level 4 Blue/White (5th Khan)
Level 5 Brown (6th Khan)
Level 6 Brown/White (7th Khan)
Advanced Levels
At this level students must demonstrate greater levels of fitness, skill and accuracy. When preparing for these grades students can commence the instructor training programme. (Any student who wishes to commence on the instructor training programme will be assessed on individual merit)
Pad-work is graded on these levels to show greater overall pad skills. For those students on the instructor training programme a further mark will be awarded for motivational skills on the pads. NB. At this level the student is expected to own all their own equipment.
Level 7 Brown/White/Yellow (8th Khan)
Level 8 Brown/White/Yellow/Green (9th Khan)
Instructor Level
In order to pass this grade the student must be on the instructor training programme and have demonstrated the skills required to teach classes. (Exceptions to this rule can be made but this is on an individual basis.)
At this level the students must demonstrate exceptional levels of fitness, greater skill and accuracy. In addition to this the students must show fighting spirit and a desire to succeed.
Level 9 Red (10th Khan)
